Automotive PTFE Coated Tapes, Fabrics & Belts
PTFE coated fiberglass tapes, fabrics and belts are cost effective, high performance materials for automotive manufacturing.
Taconic PTFE coated fiberglass materials deliver nonstick release, temperature resistance and chemical durability in automotive processing operations. From interior components and laminations to trailer body protection, our coated fabrics, belts and film tapes help improve throughput, reduce maintenance and support consistent product quality.
As a U.S. manufacturer of PTFE coated fabrics, tapes and belts since 1961, Taconic supports automotive OEMs and Tier suppliers in applications that require clean release, stable processing and reliable performance under heat and pressure.
Key Automotive Applications
Automotive Interior
Automotive interior applications such as lamination of headliners, trunk liners and door panels utilize PTFE coated fabrics, open mesh belting and heavy weight belting. UHMW and PTFE film tapes are used as anti squeak and rattle materials throughout the vehicle cabin. Heavy weight belts carry extruded plastic, rubber and foam through curing ovens for fabrication into interior parts such as window gaskets and door moldings.
Typical uses:
- Liner and panel lamination
- Anti squeak and rattle materials
- Gasket and molding fabrication
Truck and Trailer Scuff Boards
Truck and trailer scuff boards, also referred to as kick boards, scuff plates or scuff liners, run along the inside wall base of truck bodies and trailers. They protect against punctures and impact damage from pallets and forklifts during loading and unloading, which helps increase trailer service life and reduce maintenance costs.
Scuff boards are produced from a variety of materials including steel, HDPE, composite, corrugated and other engineered substrates. Taconic Heavy Weight Premium Smooth Fabric acts as a reliable release material during scuff board lamination.
Typical use:
- Lamination release material for scuff board production
Trailer Side Skirts
Trailer side skirts consist of panels that run along the trailer length, extending closer to the ground to reduce airflow under the trailer and around the rear axle. They are reported to provide 4 to 7 percent fuel savings, improve tractor trailer stability in cross winds and help reduce tire spray that can impact visibility for other drivers. Side skirts are most effective on box style trailers that regularly travel long distances at highway speeds.
Heavy Weight Premium Smooth Fabric is used as a release sheet in the lamination of aerodynamic truck and trailer panel skirts.
Typical use:
- Lamination release material for aerodynamic side skirt panels
