Lester T. Russell, the acknowledged inventor of the process for applying polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to fiberglass fabric, founded Taconic in 1961. Since then, Taconic has been on the cutting edge of developing and marketing advanced engineered composite materials. Currently, the ISO 9001:2000 registered company operates two divisions: Industrial Products and Advanced Dielectric. Taconic's products are used by a wide variety of customers across a range of industries-wherever strong, lightweight, waterproof, thermal, fireproof, and/or nonstick materials are required.
Over the last four decades, Taconic has expanded on this core capability by serving numerous markets. Taconic is now able to supply the international market through global manufacturing, fabrication, sales, and service organizations that support the sale of its products. Facilities in the Americas, Europe and Asia serve customers with high-quality fabricated materials and multilingual local sales support.

Advanced Dielectric Division
Taconic's Advanced Dielectric Division was founded in the early 1980s with a vision to supply the world with the finest quality microwave circuit board materials available. Today, this vision has been realized. Advanced Dielectric Division technology is used in some of the most leading-edge communication systems in the world. Typical applications for Taconic laminate substrates include emerging collision-avoidance and radar systems as well as cellular communications and global positioning systems (GPS). Long-term product development goals include supplying high-end, high-frequency PTFE laminated circuit board material that offers improved performance and lower costs.

Industrial Products Division
Founded in 1961, this division produces a wide range of coated materials, including specialty fabrics, pressure-sensitive tapes, engineered conveyor belts, and silicone products. The lightweight, durable, non-stick, dielectric and thermal characteristics of these chemically-resistant coated materials makes them well-suited for applications in the plastic packaging, textile manufacturing, chemical, silk-screening, oil, aerospace and distribution industries. The Industrial Products Division also offers solutions for architectural applications.
Architectural Fabrics
For much of its history, Taconic has been providing PTFE and silicone-coated fiberglass fabrics for unique, innovative architectural structures. Taconic fabrics are designed to provide lightweight, convenient, fireproof, and beautiful alternatives to traditional architectural materials. The use of PTFE-GLASS™ fabrics allows superior heat and cold resistance and a smooth, waterproof surface for numerous architectural applications such as skylight systems, roof systems, canopies/walkways, freestanding structures, and interior shading and acoustical systems. Recent installations include the Pilgrim's Accommodation Project in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and the Baby Dome in London, England.
